6 Days Machame Route Kilimanjaro Joining Group
Challenge yourself on the scenic Machame Route, one of the most popular and rewarding routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. Known as the “Whiskey Route,” it offers diverse landscapes, from lush rainforest to alpine desert, with excellent acclimatization for a higher summit success rate.
This 6-day joining group trek is ideal for adventurous travelers looking for a balance between challenge and achievement, while sharing the journey with climbers from around the world.
Day 1 – Machame Gate to Machame Camp
After registration, begin your trek through the dense rainforest, where the trail is shaded and rich with vegetation. You may spot monkeys and colorful birds as you hike along the well-defined path. Arrive at Machame Camp in the afternoon for dinner and overnight.
Day 2 – Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Leave the forest behind and enter the moorland zone, where the landscape opens up with stunning views. The trail becomes steeper, but the scenery rewards you with panoramic views of the mountain. Arrive at Shira Camp, where you can relax and enjoy the sunset.
Day 3 – Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Trek steadily toward Lava Tower, gaining altitude to aid acclimatization. After spending some time at higher elevation, descend to Barranco Camp, following the “climb high, sleep low” principle. This day is important for helping your body adjust while enjoying dramatic landscapes.
Day 4 – Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Start the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, a steep but rewarding section with amazing views. Continue trekking across ridges and valleys, with opportunities to enjoy the unique alpine scenery. Arrive at Karanga Camp for rest, dinner, and overnight.
Day 5 – Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Trek towards Barafu Camp, the final base before your summit attempt. The terrain becomes more rocky and barren as you approach higher altitude. After arrival, rest, have an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight summit climb.
Day 6 – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Begin your summit attempt around midnight, trekking slowly toward Uhuru Peak under the stars. Reaching the summit is a rewarding experience, offering breathtaking views from the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, descend to Mweka Camp for dinner and overnight.
